Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 3, 2026
This page is maintained by the Equata team to explain what information the Equata math puzzle service collects, how it is used, and the choices teachers and schools have. It describes our current practices and is not an independent audit or certification.
Information We Collect
Teachers create accounts with an email address and password. When teachers use the app we store the classroom settings they configure and the student records they create. Students sign in with a username and student ID issued by their teacher — no student email address, phone number, or home address is requested.
We also store gameplay data such as scores, streaks, puzzles solved, hint usage, and badges earned, so teachers can see classroom progress and students can see leaderboards.
Children's Privacy & COPPA Compliance
Equata is designed for educational use in classrooms. We do not ask for, collect, or sell personally identifiable information (PII) from students under 13.
All student accounts are created and managed entirely by the teacher or school, who acts as the authorizing agent on behalf of parents in the school context. Teachers choose what identifiers to enter; we ask that they avoid using full legal names or other sensitive details where a first name or nickname will do.
Student accounts have no email, no messaging with people outside the classroom, no behavioral advertising, and no third-party ad tracking. A teacher or school may request deletion of any student record at any time by contacting us, and deleting a student in the teacher dashboard removes that student's gameplay history.
How We Use Information
We use the information described above to operate the service: authenticating logins, generating daily puzzles, calculating scores and leaderboards, showing teacher analytics, and maintaining the security and reliability of the app. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use student data for advertising.
Service Providers
Equata runs on third-party hosting and database infrastructure that processes data on our behalf under contract. These providers may store data needed to run the app, but are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Data Retention & Deletion
We keep account and gameplay data for as long as the account is active. Teachers can delete individual student records from the dashboard. To delete an entire teacher account and its associated classroom data, contact us and we will process the request.
Security
Access to classroom data is restricted to the owning teacher's account through server-enforced access rules, and passwords are stored hashed rather than in plain text. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, so we encourage teachers to use strong, unique passwords.
Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser storage strictly to keep users signed in and to remember preferences such as sound and haptic feedback settings. We do not use advertising cookies.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
